Popplet is a great looking mindmapping software. You can upload pictures and movies, others can collaborate and you can embed easily. You can request an invite if you are a teacher. Also available on iPad for free or $6.49 NZ

Mindmeister embeds well in a wiki/blog. It looks good, easy to navigate, simple to create map, graphics are limited, not much of a variety as Webspiration, but it did exactly what I wanted and that was to embed a diagram that hyperlinked. You can add notes and attachments and it can be collaborated on. It is also free, but you can upgrade for a price to a more sophisticated product with more features. Hover over the links and you will see thumbnails of the websites. It also available as an app for iPod touches and iPads. is another collaborative mindmapping software. Easy to use, students can collaborate on one mindmap, colourful and easy to embed.

Wise Mapping is very similar to Mindmeister in all of the features. There is quite a range of colours, you can add notes and others can collaborate on it as well. There are limited graphics. It embeds easily enough.

Spicy Nodes is another creative mindmapping solution. You can upload movie and picture content to each node. There are several background themes to choose from.

Google Docs is another way of creating mindmaps. You need a Google account, go to Google Docs and under Create select drawing. You can import images and link shapes. The drawing tools will look quite familiar to students. The document can be embedded and collaborative.

Inspiration and Kidspiration is great mindmapping software. Download a 30 day trial. You can embed images and movies. Hyperlink to files and websites.
